The Dogs - Different
The derision usually associated with French rock is often well placed but there are several arguments against such a line of thinking in the form of early 80's punk and power pop entries like The Dogs and Téléphone. The former made
their mark on the French punk scene with the highly underrated Different, a pounding bit of punk with a pop soul and a sour lyrical streak that garnered it comparisons to The Only Ones. Well deserving of the comparison too, Dominique Laboubée's songwriting carries the same weary edginess that marked the best UK punk of the time. Despite great reviews in their home country and a great follow-up, Too Much Class for the Neighborhood the album remains only a cult favorite that's long overdue for further praise.
