Misophone

One of the first really great releases I've heard this year actually came out at the tail end of last year but who's really counting anyway. The duo of S. Herbert and M.A Welsh has created a thoughtful, subtle folk-pop album that seems almost impossibly perfect. While, Where has it gone, all the beautiful music of our grandparents? It died with them, that's where it went... is really Misophone's first proper, label released album, it is in fact the duo's 13th collaborative recording to date. Playing on a coy sense of innocence mixed with Herbert's talents as a multi-instrumentalist, the album is really more orchestrated and dense than it seems on first listen; but the gentle ease with which Misophone deliver its 12 tracks makes it seem wholly effortless. The band even throw in a great Daniel Johnston cover and lending it's playfully heartfelt charm to his song is a perfect fit. Where Has It Gone... sits in great company on Sweden's Kning Disc, alongside Voice of the Seven Woods, Bird By Snow and The Skull Defekts. Seriously, pick it up now!
